So Zaglio, the person who wants everyone to help get the oil companies' attention has 3 posts and 260 points, meaning 100 points for joining, three message posts, and either referred seveal people join this website or else read four news articles. Doesn't seem like he really cared enough to return to this website or report on the progress/results of the May 19 gas strike.

though we may feel better about getting back at the oil companies, this thing won't work. I didn't hear anything about this May 19 day. Unless the whole population of the US is willing to participate...it will simply be "letting off steam" for those of us who continue to see nothing but greed.

Well, if at first you don't succeed, try, try again, then give up. There's no use in being a darn fool about it.

I see the day of the big boycott they raise the price to $2.45 a gallon. Glad I filled up on the 18th for $2.14 a gallon.

There has never been a boycott which successfully lowered the price of a product because there's not even an economic theory as to how that might happen. Price is determined by supply and demand. As soon as demand gets back to the same level, the price will be restored unless something happens to supply in the meantime.

Wobneb, I can think of at least two that DID work; the one that comes readily to mind is that of the Birmingham Bus Company. But one day boycotts of gasoline WILL NEVER WORK.

a one day 'boycott' doesn't work...to see results you have to do what we are doing now...use less over a long period of time...

Rookie. If I had took your advice I would of ended up paying 2.45 a gallon on May 20th instead of 2.27 on May 19th.

I bought 14 gallons of gas on the 19th.
One day gas outs don't work. Reducing your own personal gas consumption and dependence EVERY day does work.
And next time, use the Boycotts/Gasouts forum.
On the plus side, I'm now prepared to boycott gas stations for Memorial Day weekend! Then again, I boycott gas stations eight days out of nine. On average, I buy gas about every 8-9 days.

I BELIEVE IF EVERY ONE WILL CONSERVE ON THERE JOY RIDDING ON SUNDAY EVEINGS AND STAY AT HOME AND DO FAMILY THINGS AND JUST BY ENOUGH GAS TO GET BACK AND FORTH TO WORK THAT IS ONE WAY AND BEFORE LEAVING WORK CALL HOME TO SEE IF YOU NEED TO PICK UP ANYTHING FROM THE GROCERY STORE THAT ANOTHER WAY ON CONSERVING ON GAS YOU WILL SEE A DIFFERENCE IDO

Boy of boy, did we nail those greedy corporate pigs or did we nail those greedy corporate pigs or what?!?
The price of gas went up $.10 per gallon today.
If a boycott sends a statement to the oil companies, their statement back would be, "Price increase!".

I did not buy gas yesterday... because I didn't NEED any, not because someone thought a one-day strike would do anything.
Whoopee.

There is already a boycott forum for people who believe things like one-day gas strikes work.
Everyone else knows one-day gas strikes will not work.
