Buy a motor to mount on your bike. Just be prepared - top out speed is about 8mph & Semitrailers will blow you into the ditch.

While the idea is good in theory, most quality scooters will cost you $2,500 to $5,000 depending on quality, features (which can vary significantly), convenience (starting, oil/gas requirements, maintenance, etc), and engine size. Yes, low end models (with partial assembly by the owner) can cost $1,000 whereas a name brand (and better quality) such as a Vespa will cost between $3,000 and $6,000, and a Honda will cost between $2,300 (for a 49 cc model) to $3,000 for a Honda Elite (a better and more functional scooter), upwards to $5,000.

There are disadvantages in that they're limited in what they can do; depending where you live and the model, many are not what you want to use to commute to work; they're simply not built for extended drives and you'll feel the difference between models. There's limited cargo capacity, there's safety perceptions, especially when on primary roads (read, for example, in another thread about how people wouldn't buy a SMART car because other cars are bigger and would cause extensive damage; that concern is there more so when putting a scooter on the road).
they aren't what you would generally use for short work commutes, nor do they have the capacity to carry cargo/a load of any significance, and there are maneuverability issues on the road (again, safety).

The advantages are they're less costly than a car to operate and maintain, less to insure, and they get better gas mileage.

Would I get one? Well, I used one overseas for several years, being very conscious of traffic, scheduling my driving time and frequently choosing side streets in order to compensate for other traffic. Better, however, to seriously consider a small, relatively inexpensive second car that can provide more utility. If the issue is solely the price of gas and the price of insurance, then get a scooter; if there are other issues, consider something small, other than a scooter such as a mid-sized motorcycle or a small car which can probably give you more overall value for your dollar.

Not sure who you mean by "we" but if a scooter fits your needs, by all means get one. For me a scooter would not work.

My Euro Neighbor's French Poodle did a Euro scooter across their new Carpets. No big savings for them.

It seems like a nice idea, however, I live in a rural area and most of the travel is on highways and it is rather scary trying to operate a vehicle around them. But another point is the cost and the safety factor, initial cost for a good quality unit is pretty high 2,000.00 to 4500.00 those ones you buy on the net wont last very long....

1. Why are you shouting?
2. Those scooters would work in a city if you didn't have to get on a Interstate or highway. Otherwise you would get run over.
