At a special meeting of the European Commission late last week, the organization offered a proposal for new, tougher vehicular fuel standards. The plan recommends a 2020 goal for CO2 emissions which would effectively reduce costs for consumers by up to 25 percent across the board. The assumption is that stricter emission levels will cut fuel usage and therefore consumer spending.
The Commission has not decided whether the new proposal will be binding, nor has it specified what the 2025 and 2030 levels will be. Both those pieces of the puzzle could come up in the next series of meetings. Some environmental groups think the proposed standards should be even more restrictive. In fact, the Transport and Environment campaign group would like to see the per-kilometer CO2 level set at 89 grams ra

Just what we need is more government control. I don't like giving up our freedoms and Europe is no model to follow.

Wish we could get tough on mileage, but then that would require a tough leader, which we don't have.

An all invasive social engineering government is not what we need here. No wonder Europe is such a catastrophe now.

.
What IDIOT thought this stupidity up? Oh yeah, Europe. The conclusions are completely wrong and a pipedream. They are based on the same idiotic notion that increasing the price of gasoline reduce consumer driving thereby saving them money through less miles driven and lowers emissions. The emissions are the same, there is just less driving!

And lastly again, CO2 is NOT a greenhouse gas and NEVER will be as long as there are plants living on the Earth!

FACT: Termites produce more CO2 in one year then man has produced in the last 200 years! Why isn't the EPA and Europe exterminating ALL termites if CO2 is really a problem? The answer, there is no money in it and no control over the population if they do that!

Amazing, if you give away money people will react, something new I presume.

Then again, if they raise the standard they are saving consumers 25% on fuel, of course that means you aren't going to drive that 25% of the miles you currently drive since you won't be able to afford to, but it is a savings......
