Of course. Everytime something new comes up, there is so much opposition to it, nothing can get accomplished...

The US is continuing to fall behind on many technological fronts. But what else can we expect when a large number of people and politicians reject science?

This report is contrary to the news that Germany which has shut down all nuclear plants is now using more coal.

Did anyone ever stop to think that a lot of the countries going to green energy have to because they cannot get the fuel to run their power grids. We are blessed in America. We have plenty of Coal, Natural Gas and quite a bit of Nuclear. We are not forced to go green especially when it cost twice as much to do it. We do have a small percentage of fools that want to have everyone pay twice to three times the amount they are now paying so that the small percentage of tree huggers are happy.

Sorry Mac... the only common sense is by Germany and the other countries.... they are actually building for the future...
We have an entire political theology determined to take the US back to the stone age...quite literally.... just to make more money...
Truth is, the US may not survive the stupidity of a political party determined to destroy the country for their own profit.
The only economic hardship is if we are forced to upgrade instantly. That is not the case. But the GOP and its owners/masters don't want to take away from their massive profits....
The country needs to be kept on a sustainable course. That is not in the GOP plans for the country.... at least the ideologues in charge of the party right now (the new Dixiecrats).
Sadly, the GOP was famous for stressing the "conserve" in conservative. Now, Teddy Roosevelt is faded memory. As is some of the good things Nixon and some of the GOP presidents have done.
If Mac wanted to display some intelligence instead of mindless mimickry, he would push for the country to try to match some of the efforts by the other countries ...and even improve on them...

Sadly, Mac proves just how accurate my statements are..... as do the rest of clownish clones drinking the toxic koolaid with him.
Fact is, being green is smarter AND more economical.....and more sustainable.
Must be all that Fuzzy Math that Texas is famous for....otherwise even a blind person would see....
Next Mac & Friends will tell you that a 5mpg car is more economical than a 40mpg vehicle.
A well-designed house that doesn't need AC or is not an energy sieve uses just a fraction of the cost of a non-sustainable home.
If they were really worried about loan guarantees and other government involvement/supports, then all the kool-aid clones would be screaming about the trillions in support of the nuclear industry.
Mac...wanting the US to sprint to be a third-world country when it comes to energy....So to paraphrase and simplify for Mac & clones...the ignorance is yours, as is the propaganda.

Its a matter of cost and the Obama administration has already cost taxpayers hundreds of millions in failed solar loans. Obama needs to be a one term president.

The fact that the US if "falling behind other countries in renewable energy" does not cause anyone who understands what is actually going on around the world especially in Europe any consternation at all. The US is actually following the common sense policy despite the efforts of our current administration in Washington. If the governments in Europe did not mandate their current and increasing renewable energy production, you can bet they would not be leading in the renewable energy production race. The enforced use or renewable sources of energy is not economically justified and the push by Europe to increase renewable energy production simply makes the goods and services produced in Europe even less competitive than they have been.
Gnusman53 - Are you really as ignorant of economic realities as your posts make you look or are you so tied to you environmentalist propaganda that you no longer can even recognize reality.

Well said. And I don't feel the least bit troubled over being behind in this, because most of the reasons that government and their "green" extremists give for promoting "Renewable" energy is based on bogus issues. Let the other countries lead the way to bankruptcy. Like you said, when the time is right, private enterprise will bring about any changes in this regard and WITHOUT the "Nanny State" interfering. Thanks for posting.

So don't care. While these countries use expensive alt energy, which matches high tax burdened petroleum prices... We enjoy "lower" costs of energy overall. Someday there'll be cheap alt energy. That's when we can introduce it to the masses. Hydro & tide energy would be best. And I'm all for nuke too. The French have taken that one suitcase of waste produced each year & turn THAT into energy too. Cuts waste & half life by half. Bet they'll figure out how to use that eventually also.

Republicans are doing everything they can to lead us back into the 19th century. Renewable energy is the future, but the right-wing nutcases can only follow the lead of the oil and coal companies.
