The Vermont Treasurer's office says its most recent $10 million bond sale will help secure an additional $51 million in federal funds that will help pay for transportation projects, including repairs of damage from Tropical Storm Irene.

Treasurer Beth Pearce says the bond sale will allow the state to proceed with 18 infrastructure projects across the state.

Let me guess...the guys with the gray ponytails who run the state are planning "high speed rail" from Brattleboro to Saint Albans.

Have you ever tried to go east or west in Vermont ? It is all small winding back country roads, heaven help you if the guy in front of you is doing 25 MPH. The same problem is in Maine also, the interstate only goes north or south.

Matching funds from the Fed is appropriate because this country is made up of individual States combined in a federation. We have free commerce between the states and free interstate transportation, thanks for the latter, to the Eisenhower Administration.

Take out a bond to reach minimum for matching fed funds, use fed funds to pay off bonds
