I have to say that the Lakers are playing good team ball right now. They are exceeding my expectations with their big and athletic team. Lets see how far they can get into the playoffs this year.

I'm going to read the WHOLE book rather than depend on some newsy's interpretation and snide comments about . Jackson's comments are important only in the context that he DID coach them both and the writer's opinions are important....let me see now...in NO context.

1. Jeannie Buss moves into President of team.
2. Dwight Howard is encouraged to walk
3. Chauncey Billups is acquired from Clippers and either he or Kobe become the new coach. The one not chosen as coach becomes the new GM.
4. Before the draft Pau World Peace and Nash are unloaded for draft choices to lottery teams(bribed to go to Sacramento

These may not be popular moves with either the fans or the trades, but something must be done to get out of the ennui created by too many old players, too many 'sissys' and too few real workers.

Lakers, Dwight Howard need to walk away from each other
The center has proven he can't handle being the face of a franchise like the Lakers. The team needs to rebuild and needs the financial flexibility it won't have if Howard is re-signed.

Lakers have some serious rebuilding to address. I don't think Howard should be the cornerstone of the team, plus he wants lots of money. Do they trade Pau? Do they dare amnesty Kobe? No #1 picks due to Nash trade. I am starting to feel pretty down about the Lakers right now, not to mention that Dr. Buss has passed and Jimmy is at the helm.

And the Spurs put a merciful end to the Lakers' season! With all their good players out, they weren't going to win anyway. But Howard didn't exactly handle this situation like a professional!

I'd get rid of D'Antoni right away, but Jim Buss seems to have other ideas!

Hobbled, injury-riddled, and without their main man. Stick a fork in the Lakers!

If Steve Nash is on his last legs, the Lakers could be on theirs
Nash, 39 and hobbled by injuries, is a shadow of his former MVP self, and on Sunday he actually seemed to hinder the Lakers. Might they be better off without him?

Clippers are still playing second fiddle to Lakers in L.A.
Despite winning the Pacific Division, the Clippers' playoff series with Memphis seems to be an afterthought when compared to the Lakers' taking on San Antonio.

Big win last night vs. Rockets. Gasol got a triple double, but in fact made numerous mistakes. They can beat the Spurs, but no likely to win the series.

A win vs Houston would give them #7 seed and would face San Antonio. A loss and a Jazz win they would be out all together. A Laker loss and a Jazz loss, they would be #8 seed.

Lakers aren't good-looking, but they'll have fun while it lasts
They seem lost for long stretches and have different identity without Kobe Bryant as they beat Spurs. 'We're going to fight to the end,' Dwight Howard says as they appear to be headed for playoffs.

I saw Howard's post game interview after the win over San Antonio. He was all business. No smile, no laughter, saying how he dominated in the game. I like his demeanor. Enough of the the joking star who has to be liked by everyone.

Lakers will always play to win. Not sure what you meant C.S. by saying they will be better off missing the playoffs. It's not like they have #1 draft pick. They traded them away for Nash. Assuming the Lakers make the playoffs, they will probably play OKC which is a bad match-up for Lakers. However, I think it would be good to see how Howard responds as leader of the team, since Kobe is out. This will position Howard's future with the Lakers.

I thought the first series was 5 games same as baseball. I just looked it up and saw this:

The First Round of the NBA Playoffs was changed from best-of-5 to best-of-7 before the 2003 playoffs. The 2002 playoffs was the last time there was best-of-5.

Okay, so unless the Lakers play very good I don't see them winning more than 2 games. Impressive win over San Antonio yesterday though.

Lakers are now better off missing the playoffs. They'll get swept by whomever they'll play.

Hard to say whether Kobe will be back. Lots of mileage on those tires!

So if the Lakers gain the 8th or 7th or 6th spot. Then what will they do? They are still being owned and operated by Jim "Bust" they are still being coached by defenseless d'Antoni. At least if they miss the playoffs they might get a decent draft pick. They are one and out at best anyway.

The Lakers are too slow and as you said "inconsistent". Sometimes they look like they can beat a top tier team. The key is Howard. I think he is worse than Shaq at making free throws. In their last game, he played the way everyone thought he could. He hustled.

I kind of hope that the Lakers just miss the playoffs to avoid an embarrassing first round sweep. Unless they improve a lot, I expect them to go quickly. They might win one game out of the five.

Too inconsistent this year and now the injury bug bites again.

They could surprise us, but who knows.

After the Wizard game I can't watch any more. It is no longer entertaining. Somebody let me know when Jim Buss and Mike D'Antoni are gone. I actually deleted the next 2 games from my DVR. For this payroll we deserve more. I have been a Laker faithful since 1960. Saw West hit a 1/2 court shot at the Sports Arena at the buzzer (half time).
I sure hope San Antonio crushes the Heat next Sunday. I watched every minute of the 71-72 season and all 33 wins. Wilt was the greatest interview, ever.

It looks like the 1st round of the Western Conf. playoffs will be a flashback to the LAL vs. SAS days.... with many of the same players too. The only big change is that Duncan will be going toe to toe with Dwight Howard instead of Shaq this time around.

Ouch! Potentially devastating loss. Lakers need to win every game they can, and losing Kobe won't help. Bryant himself said it was the most painful sprain he's had in his career.

Lakers have a decent shot at the #6 seed. Maybe #5 if they stay hot. I don't see them beating S.A. or OKC in the playoffs. I'd be surprised if they make it past the first round, if they make it that far. Would love to see that 17th ring and tie Boston. Don't see it this year.
