Already, Fremantle has dipped their hands too deep into the cookie jar. According to Golden-Road.net, with several new shows already taped, there has been rule changes to Punch-a-Bunch, Check Game, Make Your Mark, the big wheel, and 3 Strikes-twice!
While Bob leaving was inevitable, and Drew has been good or bad (depending on your point of view), Fremantle firing longtime producer Roger Dobkowitz and tinkering with the show too much could be TPIR's undoing. The changes to "3 Strikes" has upset me the most since it's one of my favorite games.

I don't make it a priority to watch anymore. It's just not the same. If I am flipping by, I might stop and watch for a few minutes.
BTW, The comedian that "irvingcohen" refers to (on the second page of comments) is Dane Cook. You can find that routine on You Tube.

Drew didn't bother me. But now I'm worried about what will become of the show now that Fremantle fired Roger Dobkowitz, their longtime producer.

Drew Carey is an excellent person. He talks too fast. Needs to slow down.
And if he also lose weight, he will resemble a lot like Bill Cullen who was the original host of The Price Is Right.

Monday's show was the 7th show that Drew taped. Yesterday's was the first. I don't know why CBS decided to change the order of the airings, other than Monday was a perfect show.
I think we need to give Drew time to get comfortable with the show and the games. Monday's show felt a little awkward, probably because it was rushed after a long playing of "It's In the Bag" (which was also a problem when Bob hosted). He seemed more in his element in yesterday's show.
I think that by 2008, we'll know for sure what kind of a direction TPIR will take.

Drew's style will be different than Bob's, no doubt about that. I think he needs to get a little more comfortable with the games (explaining rules) and try to shed the feeling that he is on "Bob's Turf." It's Drew's show now, he should make of it what he wants. And he shouldn't talk/shout into the microphone so loudly. I thought today's episode went a lot better than yesterday's.

stanleynem, fancy meeting you here!
Here are the highlights...
Decor is a more "soothing" blue and green, rather than the star-spangled red, yellow and white of the late Bob Barker era...
Theme and general music are much the same, except it's been re-recorded and it's heavier on percussion (drumset) than before (leave it to me to notice it!)--almost has a drumline feel to it.
Drew's style is more "buddy, buddy" than Bob Barker--seems like every other word with the male contestants was "buddy." With female contestants, he may be the latest sex symbol (all of them were screaming like he was a rock star!)...
All six contestants won their on-stage prizes (an auspicious start for Drew, because it was the 77th "clean sweep" since the hour-long PIR debuted). Not sure if I heard it right, but I think both Showcase finalists hit $1.00 on the big wheel.
And finally! (as Rich Fields would say)
Drew closed the show with his own take on Bob Barker's famous "have your pets spayed or neutered." Only with him it was "spay or neuter your pets."
It's a judgment call, but I think Drew will grow into Bob Barker's shoes...

CBS is running promos which include Drew Carey's trademark glass frames... first air date of the "new new" Price is Right is Monday, October 15...
...wonder if the Showcases will start including trips to Cleveland or if they will replace one of Barker's Beauties with Mimi from his oldest show?
all kidding aside, I wish him the best...but I wonder if TPIR will jump the shark and crash like the Mountain Climber game?

Also, having Sandler host would definitely drive the TV-G rating to TV-PG if not TV-14. It's a show my kids love watching with me when we're all home and I don't need to worry about them seeing or hearing anything I wouldn't want them to.

One thing I forgot to mention (besides Bergeron as host of Dancing With The Stars) is Carey is only 49. Which means if he were to host TPIR to the age where Barker retired (83), the show will be in season 70. Obviously steep odds but if one looks at soap operas, it is possible.
Each of the three networks has at least one soap beyond 40 years on air. And CBS's Guiding Light is the granddaddy of them all. 15 years on radio followed by 55 years on TV, making it the longest consecutively produced series of any genre. (info from Wikipedia)
Something tells me Bob's "Help Control The Pet Population" close will be replaced with something about libraries.

When I first heard the rumors about Drew Carey, I thought it was a perfect fit. Different enough from Bob Barker as not to draw comparisons, but young enough to attract a new audience. Hopefully they'll update the show a little bit.

Good luck Drew on your new endeavor!
His hosting experience was with "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" and he'll get more "training" with "The Power of 10".
I'm not really a fan of his and I've hardly watched his shows, but I'll reserve judgement of his hosting of TPIR until at least 6 months into season 36.
At last, the search is over!

Ahh, I was wondering when talk of the overexposed and overrated Ryan Seacrest would come up.
I would not watch with him hosting anymore than I would have if it had been Rosie O'Donnell.

My bet is that the Drew Carey TPIR will chug along for the first few months on the curiosity factor. After that, who knows?
He already is slated to host a CBS-produced primetime gameshow, so that caught the producers' eyes.
I thought Bergeron has hitched his star to Dancing With The Stars, another ABC property.
Comedians doing game shows makes sense. Go all the way back to Groucho Marx's You Bet Your Life. The only other category for potential emcees are radio disc jockeys. Bob Eubanks comes to mind, or Dick Clark. Only a matter of time before the ubiquitous Ryan Seacrest surfaces as a game show host.
Insert joke here...

For those who haven't heard, Drew Carey has been offered the job as replacement host.
Seems like an unknown in the game show world but most of the greats are either deceased or not too far behind Barker in age. Peter Tomarken is dead, Tom Kennedy is 80. Tom Bergeron was surprising not considered but considering how associated TPIR is with CBS and AFV with ABC, it becomes understandable why he wasn't considered.
If the air schedule holds true as it did under Barker, Season 36 and Drew will start airing the Monday AFTER Labor Day. Shall be interesting-just hope ratings don't nose dive to the point of cancellation.

Well Rosie says she turned it down, but I have to wonder if it was ever really offered. She would have killed the show, I know I wouldn't have watched it.
Its going to be hard to replace BB. I was listening to one of the local radio shows the other day, and they were asking for BB stories, one lady called in and said that from what she could tell, he was a real tough one to work with! I still loved the show though.

The show is on Re-runs for the summer so you can still watch Bob all summer..
Rosie was allegedly being interviewed for the job.. but now it sounds like she does not want to move to LA so it looks like that is over..
I would rather see someone younger like Todd Newton who used to be on GSN or maybe someone like Martin Short..
I would imagine they have who they want but just are waiting for the right time to announce it.. whoever they pick/picked will have to learn at least the basics of all the games by September..

You know the show was fun when I waas a kid. I liked to watch all the neato prizes and the fun as **** games. It was cool, but like most things good it must come to an end. The last time that I watched the PIR was about four years ago. This was about the time that BB got really strange, with his comments. Then he just could not control himself anymore with his comments. I do think that Rosie would be the end of the show. All we need is another dyke that can't stop a flood. Not that I am agiasnt GLB people, just Rosie. I would hope that Lopez got the job. He is really talented.

hopefully, Rosie won't go on that will be the end of the show, if they want someone, I've heard Mario Lopez's name tossed around, he generally appeals to the young as well as the older (dimples work) They need someone younger look how long Bob lasted on it.
Hopefully the show won't die because he's not on it Hope the producers make the right host

The show is on hiatus now. They are not airing new episodes. If they're airing the show at all, it's re-runs of older episodes.
Meantime, they're looking for a new host, and Rosie O'Donnell is being considered, from all rumors. If she's the host, the show will be done within a couple of years.

All the best to you Mr. Barker and may your retirement be everything you wished for, and more.
As for the Mr. Barker's successor, please don't bring on Rosie O'Donnell. I like "The Price is Right", but, I couldn't watch it with her as host.

On the showcase Friday morning {the 24th} the second showcase had an exercise room consisting of an electronic exercise bike, a universal gym and a treadmill. The other prize was a trip to Fiji.
The STUPID guy bid $26,000. I would have bid $12,000. The price was a little over $14,000 so he went WAY over and the top winner who bid on the first showcase {a lady} won a Ford F-150 4 X 2 p/u along with a Grandfather clock and a washer & dryer.

The Price is Right is my favorite game show. I have been watching it for many years, and I don't think the Price is Right would be the same without Bob Braker as the Host. I love his qorky sense of humor. Someday I would to go on his show :)
