'24' was a great show in its prime (and one of my favs), so was the character Jack Bauer! However, IMO by the last season the plot & concept was old and the show was ready to retire

I am just curious to know if anyone has ever seen a series as intriguing as "24". I know in all of my years of watching television, I have never seen a series as mesmerizing as "24".
I still miss it.

I just recently finished watching "The US vs. John Lennon" on DVD. I found it at a local library & I had never heard of it before. For people who are fans of Lennon or freedom of speech, it is a must see. People who are fans of Nixon's decisions to use the FBI in "unique" ways will find plenty to dislike about it.
You can find detailed descriptions & reviews of it on Amazon.com.
Enjoy it, or decide not to. It's your choice thanks to the 1st Amendment.

What a super-detailed description of Friday the 13th the series! I watched that show all the time when it was on years ago but haven't thought about it in years. Good for you for keeping it alive!

I liked the TV series, Friday the 13th. This has nothing to do with the "Jason" movies genre. The Premise:“Lewis Vendredi made a deal with the devil to sell cursed antiques. But he broke the pact, and it cost him his soul. Now, his niece Micki, and her cousin Ryan have inherited the store... and with it, the curse. Now they must get everything back and the real terror begins.” -- prologue that opened each episode
An antiques dealer named Lewis Vendredi (played by R.G. Armstrong) made a deal with the Devil to sell cursed antiques out of his shop, “Vendredi’s Antiques”, in exchange for wealth and immortality. He eventually grew tired of being the Devil’s puppet and broke the deal. The Devil came and claimed the soul of Vendredi (“Friday” in French) for breaking the deal.
After Lewis' death, his shop was inherited by his niece, Micki Foster (played by Louise Robey) and her cousin by marriage, Ryan Dallion (played by John D. LeMay). They sold off many of the cursed antiques before being stopped by Jack Marshak (played by Chris Wiggins). Jack was Lewis' friend, a retired world-traveller and occultist who originally collected many of the antiques for Vendredi before they became cursed.
The series follows the protagonists as they hunt down the cursed antiques, which are usually in the possession of people who have discovered their evil powers and are reluctant to give them up. Since the cursed antiques are completely indestructible, they are locked away in a vault beneath “Curious Goods” (the rechristened antique store) that is designed to magically render the objects inert. They use a special manifest written by Lewis as a guide, as it holds the records of all the cursed objects sold.
Most of the stories in the series deal with people using the cursed objects for their own personal gain. All of the cursed objects grant either the user’s deepest desire or some extraordinary power. However, the curse always requires that the cursed object be used to kill someone in order to activate it. For example, there is a cursed scalpel that gives a surgeon the ability to cure anyone, but in order for the scalpel to work, the surgeon will need to kill someone else with it beforehand. In most instances, the person using the cursed object ends up becoming a victim of the object’s curse. Some objects have been shown to be sentient, such as the doll ("The Inheritance") and the radio ("And Now the News").

Nurse Jackie on Showtime just wrapped up its first 12 episode season. If you have free On Demand, give it a shot. Nice series. Also, I've been a fan of Curb Your Enthusiasm on HBO and was happy to see new episdoes will begin next month (September). HBO has been running mini marathons for the past few weeks.

Seinfeld is STILL the best TV series comedy classic in my mind for sure.
As for latest movies, I'd say Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, X-Men: Wolverine, and Taken are some of the good ones that I've seen. I also agree with the OP on the Gran Torino movie...

Many series over the years were great: Gunsmoke, Bonanza, M*A*S*H, Cheers, Friends, Star Trek (any), Seinfeld, X-Files, Quantum Leap, etc, etc. I liked Sea Quest, but many didn't. :)
Current shows we enjoy: CSI (any), Numbers, Medium, Psych (hilarious!), Monk, Without a Trace, Cold Case and The Shield (though this one is over now).
Our DirecTv account is on hold until NFL starts again, but we can View Instantly many tv shows and movies at our convenience through Netflix. Much cheaper and we're not tempted to sit in front of the tube all the time.
We go to the theater when the kids (we have 3) want to see something and we think it will be worth the $$ (not too violent or if it smells like a bomb--I watch trailers on the 'net and read summaries in People). However, we go to the earliest showing...it's cheaper and you get free refills on popcorn and pop.
Just saw Wolverine, Star Trek and Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian. There are several more movies coming out this year that we'll probably see.
We have an active life and don't sit around staring at a screen. We work outside, go to the park, zoo, Children's Museum, Natural Science Center and library as well as have a home library of over 12,000 books.
We try to be well-rounded. :)

REVIEW:
HANCOCK with Will Smith, Charlize Theron & Jason Bateman. OK I suppose. Not a usual Smith role. Really didn't make alot of sense to us. Climaxed abruptly & the movie was over!
Any other views?

Geez, blanket condemnation of all entertainment recorded on film is rather over the top, no? And leave to someone from SoCal to not think about rain or winter.

chocolateflash, is it that you think I spend all my waking time at a movie theatre? I'm talking 1 time in prob a 6 month period... mostly during the winter cuz the rest of the time we're down in the country!
If you're wishing to do nothing more than condemn those of us who find movies & TV a relaxing thing from time to time, then maybe you need to find another thread... if you have something to say about a movie or series, then please take the floor...
Have a great night Ladytree*

Ladytree--Before noon is even worse. You are paying to sit in the dark in the best part of the day. Why not get out and enjoy the world. We were not made to avoid sunshine. Besides $4 is still too much to waste on nonsensical things like movies.

$7 to $15 to sit in the dark for two and a half hours is dumb. There is zilch on tv that is above the fifth grade level. Gives one time to read, walk, write, research, travel--and watch the Lakers.

Depending on your purpose for watching television either The Discovery Channel or home repair shows are useful. I missed Sopranos and have never seen an episode. Then again I missed Happy Days in the 1970's since I was too busy earning and saving money as a teenager for a down payment on my first home when I was 21. TV is over-rated.

btw, I wouldn't mind seeing Gran Turino. I'm really behind on watching (relatively) current movies.
