This is why we need to just say no to Big Coal and invest in more infrastructure to harness energy from solar, wind and ocean tide sources.

Wow is right! Never thought about anything other than the electricity as far as the cars being "clean". I'm glad I stuck with gas!

Dustyhorse, Don't let Barry know that you think that way; he is out to destroy the coal industry. Barry even admits it.

Even coal based electricity has to be cleaner than gasoline engines.

Yep, save the environment by not putting that polluting gas through your car, use electricity from coal burning plants instead.

Electricity is clean. Generating it sometimes isn't. Dead batteries are never clean. Guess I'll take the IC engine.

Regardless what they say... coal with its clean technology is still an environmentally sound method of generating power for homes or EV's and to stop coal energy production is like saying a yellow fire truck is no good unless its red. Wake up people... global warming is a haox and the heat we are feeling is not due to our existence... but a cycle of nature.

If it takes energy to make energy there is going to be greenhouse gases. Less greenhouse gases in the neighborhood but more in the Industrial park. It’s Slim City.

Yeah, you said it jwduke1. And how come they are just now coming out with this "dirty" electricity stuff? I never heard that from all those people who depend on "dirty" electricity to heat their homes, cook their food, etc. Are there no "Union of Concerned Scientists" living in places like Denver?

True, if the same amount of energy is used while driving, but that isn't the case, so this is not so clear cut.

Oh yeah. Oil price . com posts a reponse to a pro article and then use only one facet to argue, and that is the argument of where your electricity comes from. There are other factors mentioned in the article they refer to, such as the savings from electric vs gas. Heck even going to the dirtiest areas of the country getting all electricity from coal, most gas cars aren't as clean even factoring in the dirty coal used. Guess you all like getting your "facts" from big oil !!!

Really? How about we dig a trench along the eastern border of Cal. and let them be on their own. Let them have their ridiculous BS laws, gasoline types, Nancy Pelosi, etc and the rest of the country alone. Just as we should do with waste they call New York City, a total drain on the rest of the state with welfare, and 6+ million liberal votes compared with the entire rest of the state's total population of barely 4 million people.

* Ever walked into a closed garage after one of these things have fast charged? Ever smell your battery cooking as you charge it with a 50-100 AMP charger? Ever smell a Golf Cart Charging???
Notice the key word here is SMELL?!
It burns right? Hum, Sulfuric acid when charged produces Hydrogen-Sulfide Gas - an EPA controlled gas at ANY coal fired electric plant. Now imagine every CAR charging in your 'hood at exactly the same time! Some are 'catching' the fumes with a [charcoal] canister; so what do ya do with dat!? CA has bans on LAWNMOWER usage and WOOD STOVES and Charcoal BBQs BUT WANT electric cars!? Its like the little kid who pulls the cookie jar off the shelf to have it crash on their head and then find there were NO COOKIES in it anyway.
Also up for consideration is the incredible loss in getting Electricity to your house and the battery that takes anywhere from 125-150% more electric wattage to charge it too. Of course as they mention all the bad things produced as a by-product of electric production - except hydro which are being discontinued more and more. Not good...

biased site, biased site, biased site.
It's much more efficient to produce the electricity from a power plant, deliver the power to the car. Than to have your car produce the power in your car's engine.
