Don't drink and drive.
Don't do drugs and drive. Prescription, or otherwise.

Wake up, people! Read the boxes the meds come in! Purchase the non-drowsy meds if you know you will be driving, or else find a designated driver. Yes, it is that serious.

I would never take Benadryl and drive because puts me right to sleep, which is not surprising. Its ingredient, diphenhydramine (apologize for spelling!), is what's in OTC sleep aids!

Individual response to antihistamines varies widely - some zonk out, others are hardly affected. Also, most of us build up a tolerance for the meds over a few days, and then they don't make us so sleepy.

Yes, people do get drowsy, but they also leave common sense somewhere in a drawer.

Gigigas: sure, common sense, but that's gone out the window a long time ago.

OK so I was off-topic, people get drowsy. It has to do with safe driving habits!

Sad to admit, but when I see a non-attentive phone caller in their car weaving and swerving... I love to HONK my horn and wake THEM UP!. My other annoyance is people who no longer talk to their kids cause they are on a cell phone, blabbing away. Maybe they could give their kid a cell phone so the child can call them! "Excuse me, mommy, for calling, but is it lunch time yet?"

Mtry: not everyone has severe allergies and for short temrs, some OTC are okay. Ppl just need to realize, not everyone can take the same dose and have the same effect.

Acacia started blooming here in CA many months ago. I was born with allergies. Have undergone all the allergy test a few times in my life, as they say they chg with age. I will agree with that - mine have gotten worse if thats possible! I live on CA Coast (Monterey Bay) pretty much all my life and allergy meds have been a part of my life. I actually used to get injections 2ce a week from Dr - but I have to say that was a serious hassle to stop in and get them (simply because I wouldnt inject myself as I have a fear of needles). Evently I quit getting them. Prob should have not, but... I get my allergy meds from my Dr. I have him prescribe as I take other meds, and I dont want any crossing of drug probs! If you have health insurance you should ask your Dr to prescribe for you. They are better in my opinion than OTC as they stay very current. This way you will have no problems taking other meds with them.

mant: good for you. Glad you didn't have encounters w/ DUI drivers. But sadly, there are too many of those in many places.

I think cell and smart phones create the most danger on the road today. I have never had a close call with a drunk driver (or any other kind of distracted/impaired driver) but the other day a woman pulled right in front of me and when I hit the horn she looked over with an expression of surprise and a cell phone to her ear. She is lucky I was paying attention or she would have been t-boned.

I will usually try a new medication before I have to do anything important. I like to see what side effects it has on me.

MOST allergy sufferers know how their meds effect them. The remainder (other than a few just beginning a new med) are probably not swift enough to realize the risk to themselves and other drivers with the misfortune to be sharing the road with them.

People on allergy meds save gas because they drive slower. Get a grip GB, this is old and stale news. Who is voting this stuff up?

ANy meds, prescription or OTC, that make you drowsy should not be mixed with driving.
