Cars 'talking' to cars: Safety takes a quantum leap in Ann Arbor

GasBuddy Blog -- Ann Arbor, Mich. is soon to become the testing ground for automotive safety technology that is expected to benefit generations to come. AP reports that in a few weeks about 2,800 cars, trucks and buses will start talking to each other on the streets of Ann Arbor in a giant experiment that government officials are hoping will lead to safer roads.

Wireless devices will allow the vehicles to send signals to each other, warning the drivers of potential dangers such as stopped traffic ahead or cars that might be blowing through a red light. The devices can even get traffic lights to turn green if no cars are coming the other way.

Death to pedestrians and bicyclists, the motor vehicle must be kept king!

What happens when there's a computer glitch, it turns the light green in error?? OOOOPs, I can see a myriad of things going wrong with this.. We should ALL be responsible and keep our eyes and ears open to traffic and things around us, and it would be a safer world.. I'm not going to depend on a computer in a car to tell me when it is safe to go through a cross street etc..

But if you want a safety innovation that you can implement now, really crack down on drivers who use cellphones or text while driving.
