My results contradict most of the other posts here. I get better mileage from E10 than staight gas.
Also, adding ethanol increases octane and I believe that is the main reason E10 performs better. Straight gas at 87 octane doesn't stand a chance against E10 at 90 octane.

I would pay up to 15% more. I recently ran an experiment to see the effects of 10% ethanol on my car. I filled my tank 9 times (5 with 100% gas and 4 with 10% ethanol) and drove 280-330 miles each time. With my 2005 Hyundai Sonata, I averaged 25 miles per gallon on gas, but only 21 miles per gallon on 10% ethanol. So for me, in this particular car, it makes sense to buy pure gas.

People still don't get the idea that by buying E0 that your mileage will INCREASE and in the long run you'll actually save money by going farther on a tankful of gas even though you might save $1.00 per tank by buying the E10 fuel.
Quazar911 you read the entire question wrong. Look at your answer compared to the question that was asked.
Read my posts from 4/5 & 7/19. Many other people hate E10 as much as I do and I've even driven 70 miles to get E0 for my outboard that has yet to see E10 used in it which, sad to say, will eventually come to fruition.

I drive a Honda Prelude in NY, which state until recently switched seasonally from E0 to E10 and back, so that I was able to see a routine 10% drop in mpg when ethanol was added. Now in NY it's all E10 all the time, but at $4.50 for premium, if I could somehow get E0 for anything less than 45 cents additional, I'd be saving money. Incidentally, with E10 there's a 10% drop in horsepower, also. Aren't politicians wonderful?

Today on the way home from vacation in northern Wisconsin I gassed up at a Casey's in DeForest, WI and paid 3.98/9 for 87 octane NO ETHANOL fuel. I was pulling my 16.5 ft. Lund boat and 75 hp outboard with my 2005 Toyota Highlander V-6 driving between 60-65 mph, running the A/C and checked the mileage on my trip monitor when I pulled into my driveway and I got 20.8 mpg. I think that's pretty good mileage.

Cheap gas usually gets less MPG so it is HIGHER $ per Mile!!
In Osage, the gas that I buy is 10 cents a gal more than the lowest but I get 12% more mpg.
This reduces my fuel cost by 2.5 cents per mile a nice saving, no Ethanol Crap.

Most of you may not realize that in the state of Kansas retailers are not required to label or disclose if the fuel they are selling contains 10% ethanol. This advantage in blend economics enables many retailers to blend regular unleaded with ethanol, take the subsidy, sell the fuel at regular unleaded value which is much higher than E10 values through much of the year. Do you REALLY think you are getting the better deal at the station selling the "CHEAPEST" gas? Chances are if it's cheap in Kansas, they have blended it with ethanol without telling the consumer.

I agree with kingdick. ALL E10 costs more to run. It would have to be *at least* 50¢ cheaper to even approach the running cost of E0. This poll could have spread out its ranges a lot more.
So I would pay any difference I've seen out there so far, and in the end I'm still spending less.

Right now I pay $.10 per gallon more and save more than $.20 per gallon because I get much better MPG on Real Gas, no Ethanol Crap.

7% may not be a constant. Some claim they get no loss or very little. I get from 10 to even 15% worse with E10. Thus the price of E10 would have to be a *minimum* of 10% below the E0 price, and I've never seen it that cheap.
Pump price has ceased to be a consideration for me any more, except to the extent that if I can get E0 cheaper, I will, but I put enough time into finding E0 in the first place so I'll take what I can get. Even paying 15¢ more per gallon for pure gas, it's STILL cheaper than E10 because it goes So Much Farther.

Folks, 10%ethanol in gas has about 93% of the energy as pure gasoline. So you get about 7% better mileage with pure gas than with ethanol. And you wouldn't pay more for it???
Plus ethanol requires more petroleum to make than it replaces, so any use of ethenol is a net loss to us.
Oh well....

Unfortunately 10% ethanol makes my car stall, hard to start, and run rough. I must put 100% gas in it. I took my car in 2 different times to find out what was wrong. Several hundred dollars later, a cleaned fuel injection system, and I was still having the same problems- it took a friend to correctly diagnose the problem as Ethanol additives. I stopped using 10% Ethanol and have never since had the problem. It's too bad because it runs 5-10 cents cheaper per gallon, and is at every pump here in Nebraska.

I am currently refusing to buy gas with ethanol in it. As long as reg gas is available I will buy it. I will NOT support the subsidizing of ethanol: using food products to make gas is unacceptable, particularly in view of current world food shortages.

P.S. 4 cents per gallon = 1 cent /litre & so on down to 15 cents per gallon = 4 cents per litre. (the conversion factor is 3.785 litres/gallon)

There seems to be two opinions on this subject. The first is the recent postings from a number of people who indicate that the lower BTUs per litre cause a loss of power and mileage. The other side says the higher octane in ethanol based fuels increases power and mileage.
Obviously the only way for me to determine the corrct view was to compare the two. After three tanks of each I found there was very little difference - with about 2% improvement going to E10 gas.
Now I look for and buy E10 gas as often as possible.

Uncle Mark's analysis about cost-per-mile is spot-on, and drivers everywhere should take the time to ponder it. Lowest price at the pump just ain't all there is to it. Would we buy a gallon of milk that had only 3½ quarts in it?

In the Chicago area, the only stations selling E0 are Casey's General Store locations which are 45-50 miles from where I live. I will not make a special trip to get fuel there but if I'm in the area I'll fill up. The stations that I've filled up at over the past several years have been in Morris, Plano, Ottawa, DeKalb, Paw Paw, Mendota, Ladd, Seneca, Marseilles, Kankakee, Dwight, Gardner, Pontiac, Watseka, DeForest & Milton, WI. Abilene & Salina, KS and some I can't remember. The Casey's outside of IL usually are the same price for the E10 and the E0 but in IL the E0 is about 8-10 cents/gal. more than E10 but again I get better mileage which more than offsets the higher price I have to pay. Again as I've said on my March 15th post a person toiday has to think in MILES PER DOLLAR instead of MILES PER GALLON.
