Latest rise in gas prices surprises some Flagler, Volusia consumers

The Daytona Beach News Journal -- Just a few weeks ago it looked as if gasoline prices could dip below $3 per gallon.

Now that seems more like a dream.

Filling her car's tank Wednesday at a Citgo station on Belle Terre Parkway in Palm Coast, where regular unleaded gas was selling for $3.35 per gallon, Amanda Holden smiled and shook her head. Just two weeks ago, it $3.17 per gallon.

"Why are (prices) going up all of a sudden?" Holden said. "I understood with the races it would happen, but why are they continuing to go up?"

Holden said dealing with rising gas prices is nothing new and she tries to plan her driving trips carefully.

"I've always tried to consolidate trips," she said. "I've been doing that for a long time."

Let's put this into perspective. People in Hawai'i, now paying about $4.15/gallon, would be ecstatic to be paying $3.35/gallon.

Guess what, prices went down so people started to drive arround more. the gas greedy sees this so they raise the price. best way to combat it drive less so you buy less. the gas greedy lowers the price so it sells again.

Actually, it is more efficient to keep the AC on the the windows closed as the open windows cause wind drag that offsets the cost using ambient air over AC.

As for the rise in prices, that is due to the volatility of the region from which we have chosen to get most of our oil.

We just need to use less oil products to limit our exposure to the traders that do whatever they need to do to get our money.

I think prices are lowered and then raised until they have to lower because of speculators. American people's out cry after awhile.

Not surprised at all. In fact, I expected it. Look at prices over the past years, and there's a pattern. People complain and cut back on driving, the price goes down a little, people start driving again, and the prices goes up higher than before. And it just keep happening over and over.
