Petrobras: Starting Production at Chinook Field in U.S. Gulf

Petroleo Brasileiro SA (PBR, PETR3.BR, PETR4.BR) started production at the Chinook oil and gas field in the ultra-deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico last week, the company said Thursday.

Petrobras, as the company is known, drilled and completed the Chinook well in a resevoir in the Lower Tertiary, a geographic layer nearly five miles deep in the Gulf of Mexico. Oil and gas companies are using advances in drilling technology to explore for oil in increasingly extreme environments.

The Pioneer production platform is moored 155 miles off the coast of Louisiana and in waters 8,200 above the sea floor, a world-record depth for oil productoin, according to Petrobras.

There are several new rigs in the Gulf. If US companies want to drill there, just apply, which they have done. Maybe the US companies should start using the permits they already have?

Have an SOP, blow out protection, emergency evacuation procedure, tested and certified equipment and the KNOWLEDGE to operate the drilling rig correctly and safely. It would be disastrous if there was another massive oil spill that happened like BP. Oil companies keep finding oil deposits all over this earth, we were supposed to run out of crude oil years ago. Chuck and TD (<comment police – TD *stay away from the Kool-Aid!) gave money to Brazil and this is what we get in return? We are running out of oil so let's raise prices at the pump! It's TD's fault! It's open ocean, have at it but don't pollute our shores! Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, has a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! 12/22/2012!
